Iced Coconut Matcha Latte
What is a matcha latte?
A matcha latte is made with matcha powder, water and your milk of choice. Depending on the weather, it can be enjoyed hot or cold. Matcha is a specific type of powdered green tea that is grown and produced in Japan. The matcha green tea leaves are shade-grown 20-30 days before harvest, which increases chlorophyll production, boosts the amino acid content and gives the matcha its signature dark green hue.
Why is matcha good for you?
Not only is matcha on-trend and used in everything from lattes and shots to teas and even desserts, it also offers a variety of benefits for your overall health:
1. High in antioxidants
Matcha is naturally rich in a class of plant compounds called catechins, which act as natural antioxidants. Antioxidants help stabilise harmful free radicals, which reduces cell damage and the risk of chronic diseases. What’s more, one serving of matcha contains 137 times more antioxidants than a single cup of green tea.
2. Boosts brain function
Matcha contains a compound called L-theanine, which promotes a state of relaxation and alertness while helping to avoid the energy crash that can happen following a regular cup of coffee.
3. Promotes heart health
Studies have shown that drinking matcha reduces levels of total and “bad” cholesterol, which in turn minimises the risk of heart diseases.
4. Aids weight loss
Green tea extract is well known for its ability to enhance weight loss by speeding up your metabolism, which increases energy expenditure and boosts fat burning.
